And that’s a wrap for the 2024 Creag Liath Excavation. The site was closed down and protected this morning, and Andy & Phil from Archaeology Scotland are making their way home for a well deserved rest. The weather was incredibly kind to the team and volunteers this year, which has allowed significant progress over the past 10 days and the unearthing of a number of interesting features that have been subjected to a more detailed examination.
However, the work does not stop here as many soil samples and finds need to be carefully examined and tested before we get a clearer picture of what has been achieved.
A huge thanks must go out to the wonderful band of over 30 volunteers from as far afield as Fife who contributed 80 days of effort towards unearthing the prehistoric story of Glendaruel. Special thanks also to Archaeology Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, the Cruach Mhor Windfarm Trust and ColGlen Community Council, whose support have made this investigation possible.
The team have kindly agreed to return in the spring of 2025 to give us a presentation on their findings, and when we have a date we will let you know. The general consensus is that there is much more to discover at Creag Liath, so fingers crossed that 2025 will see more activity.
